  • Reveals Opposition parties are in discussion to form a broad coalition to oust current Govt.
  • Says parties will seek to form unified policy framework for the purpose
  • Accuses current Govt. and its misguided and anti-people policies for the hardships endured by citizens

Freedom People’s Congress (FPC) member Prof. G.L. Peiris addressing a press conference yesterday revealed that a broad political alliance to be formed will seek to remove the current Government within the upcoming year.

“The people are undergoing unprecedented suffering, necessitating the urgent replacement of the current Government in the coming year. The formation of a comprehensive political alliance is crucial for achieving this goal. We have initiated a well-structured plan towards this objective and are currently engaged in discussions,” he claimed.

The MP mentioned that discussions are underway among the parties to establish a unified policy framework that garners consensus from all, with the aim of replacing the current Government.

Peiris emphasised the necessity for economic policy reforms and underscored that the current Government’s approach to this matter is highly unsuited for Sri Lanka. He attributed the current Government’s misguided policies to the hardships currently endured by the country’s population.

The MP underscored the need for a comprehensive social safety net for the underprivileged in the country. “The lack of such a social security net is the main failure of the current Government’s policy,” he noted.

He accused the Government of being insensitive to the plight of the country’s citizens as evidenced by their actions relating to the refusal to release water for long-suffering farmers in rural areas.

The MP strongly criticised the present Government for its policies that are detrimental to the people’s interests. He asserted that the sole solution is to promptly hold a nationwide election to usher in a government that prioritises the welfare of the people. Peiris said the entire Opposition will work towards achieving this end.
