Free EducationUSA University Fair to open doors to US higher education

The United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC), in partnership with the US Embassy in Sri Lanka, will host the 2026 EducationUSA University Fair in Colombo, Kurunegala and Kandy between 14 and 18 September, 2026.

The free fairs will connect Sri Lankan students directly with representatives from eleven accredited U.S. colleges and universities to discuss admissions requirements, scholarships and academic programs. Students will have the opportunity to learn about programs in high-demand fields, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer science and cybersecurity, biotechnology and other areas of study.

EducationUSA, the US Government’s official source of information on US higher education, will also provide students and families with trusted guidance and resources on studying in the United States.

Students interested in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs are encouraged to attend, along with parents, educators and school administrators. US-SLFC representatives will share information about Fulbright scholarships and fellowships available to Sri Lankan citizens. Participation is free, but advance registration is required.

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer highlighted the strength of U.S. universities and their role in advancing new technologies. “The United States is the global leader in higher education and innovation, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and biotechnology. We look forward to showcasing that leadership through the U.S. universities participating in this fair and the American expertise they represent across these emerging fields,” he said.

US-SLFC Executive Director Dr. Patrick McNamara said the fairs connect Sri Lankan students directly with US universities, opening new opportunities for study while strengthening educational ties between the two countries.

The 11 participating institutions represent universities and colleges from across the United States: University of Texas at El Paso, El Paso, Texas; North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota; University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas; University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont; Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio; University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Knoxville, Tennessee; Fisher College, Boston, Massachusetts; Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan; New York University, New York City, New York; Baylor University, Waco, Texas; and Albright College, Reading, Pennsylvania.

The fairs will be held in Colombo at the Courtyard by Marriott Colombo, Grand Sapphire Ballroom, on 14 September from 1 to 4 p.m.; in Kurunegala at the Royal International School on 16 September from 2.15 to 3.15 p.m.; and in Kandy at the Kandy City Centre, Banquet Hall, on 17 September from 1 to 4 p.m.
