With all-day performance, a new S pen, an intelligent camera, improved display and stereo speakers, the Samsung Galaxy Note9 debuted in India this week, promising the consumers a device that keeps up with their fast-paced lives.
Promising all day performance with an extended battery life, better storage and speed, the Note9 will retail at a price of INR 67,900 and INR 84,900 for 128GB and 512GB respectively, starting from 24 August. The Galaxy Note 9 will feature a colour range of Midnight Black, Lavender Purple, Metallic Copper and Ocean Blue, a vast difference from the Galaxy Note8.
The new Galaxy Note9 carries a 4000mAh battery, minimum 128 GB storage capacity up to 1TB with external SD card and a 2.7 GHz Quad core processor as compared to the 3300mAh battery, minimum 64 GB storage and a 2.3 GHz Quad core processor in the Note8. The new Note also includes a Water Carbon Cooling system to withstand heat and work better with all-day use.
The signature feature in the Note9, the S pen, has been upgraded with Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) technology for greater functionality. With just a click this feature enables the user to operate the pen as a remote to snap selfies from a distant, move slides in a presentation and music and video playback control. Samsung hopes developers will integrate this technology into their apps in the future.
The Note9 camera carries similar hardware as the Note8 but with an added LED flash and slow motion video recording up to 960 fps (frames per second), as compared to the Note8 with just 240 fps. Stepping up from the Note8, the Note9 camera is equipped with an Intelligent Scan facial recognition software for better image processing, with scene optimiser, flaw detection and low light photo capturing. Through scene optimiser, the camera is able to identify elements of a photograph and optimise its colours and definition. With the Intelligent software a notification will appear if the image is blurry, the subject blinked, there is a smudge on the lens or there’s a backlight impacting the quality of the image. The rear wide-camera also comes with a Dual Aperture lens, which adjusts to low light like the human eye delivering better quality in low-light captures.
The infinity display in the Note9 is upgraded to 6.4 inches, a 0.1 inch expansion from the Note8. It is complimented by stereo speakers tuned by AKG, the Australian acoustics manufacturer, with Dolby Atmos, a surround sound technology by Dolby Laboratories, which is a major change from the Note8. It should be noted that the Note9 is six grams heavier, 0.2 mm thicker and 1.6 mm wider as compared to its predecessor. Samsung has continued its feature Samsung DeX in the new Note9 delivering a PC-like experience, by which when the phone is connected to a PC through an HDMI adapter, it serves as a trackpad, a keyboard and a second screen. It is also water-resistant and provides wireless charging as its predecessor.
Samsung Electronics President and CEO of IT and Mobile Communications Division DJ Koh revealed Samsung’s flagship smartphone Galaxy Note9 to the audience.
“India is at the centre of a new era of digital transformation. I am very pleased to present the Galaxy Note9 on behalf of the 70,000 Samsung employees in India. Since the entry of Samsung in 1995 and the expansion of the Noida factory, we have now become the most beloved mobile brand in India,” he said.
Introducing the new features of the Note9 and the also the new upgraded Samsung smart watch, Samsung India Senior Vice President, Mobile Business Asim Warsi described his experiences using the Note9 in a trial run.
“Galaxy Note9 is a super powerful device built for people who expect more. During the trial period, the Galaxy Note9 combined the power of a laptop, media streaming device, power bank, external hard drive, gaming console, DSLR camera and a selfie stick,” he added. The new Samsung Galaxy Note9 will be available to Sri Lankan consumers from 31 August in all Samsung outlets island wide.
