The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday approved the implementation of the five-year National Action Plan for the National Child Protection Policy, which was initially approved in October 2019 under the National Child Protection Authority Act No. 50 of 1998.

The Action Plan, developed through a broad consultation process with stakeholders in the child protection sector, addresses 10 key thematic areas and adopts a multi-sectoral approach to ensure comprehensive protection for children.

It also aligns with the Government’s broader national policy framework titled ‘Safe World for Children – Creative Future Generation’, which seeks to safeguard children’s rights and create a secure, nurturing environment for their development.

The move will be implemented, working in collaboration with multiple agencies and partners to deliver its objectives over the next five years.

The initiative aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s child protection mechanisms, improve coordination among relevant institutions, and foster a safer and more supportive environment for children across the country.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Savithri Paulraj was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
