Five COVID-19 deaths bring total to 370

A total of 370 persons have died of COVID-19 in the country to date, five of which were confirmed by health authorities yesterday.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, an individual from Moratuwa yesterday died of kidney disease exacerbated by COVID-19 and blood poisoning at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital. He was 81-years-old.

The previous day, a 45-year-old individual from Kapuliyadda died of acute COVID pneumonia, bronchitis, and high blood pressure at the Teldeniya Base Hospital.

The same day, a 73-year-old individual from Kurunegala died while receiving treatment at the Narammala District Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia and asthma.

On 6 February, an individual from Anuradhapura died while being admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia, exacerbated diabetes, and high blood pressure. She was 74-years-old.

Health authorities also confirmed that a 56-year-old individual from Katawela died on 2 February of COVID pneumonia. The individual tested positive for the virus at the Kandy General Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital, where he passed away.
