Nearly 40 MPs who were part of the Government previously moved to Opposition benches in Parliament today.

When Parliament began its post-Avurudu session, 39 MPs from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and 10 other parties that supported the coalition, and those who decided to remain independent from the SLPP were assigned seats in the Opposition benches in Parliament.

Later on Parliament sittings were suspended for 10 minutes following heated arguments between MPs.

Talks between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and representatives of former allies to resolve the current political impasse have been inconclusive.
