EU team responds positively to progress made by Govt., says Sabry

The visiting five-member high-ranked delegation from the European Union has responded positively to the current progress made by the Government, stating that it was satisfied with the current situation in Sri Lanka, the Justice Ministry said yesterday.

The EU delegation which is on an official visit to review the progress made by the Government to continue the EU GSP+ concession said this at a meeting held with Justice Minister Ali Sabry at Ministry premises yesterday.

 “The EU delegation said they would look into all possible concessions in the future,” the Justice Ministry said in a statement yesterday.

The delegates representing the EU shared the outlook towards Sri Lanka and inquired from the Justice Minister about the current situation in the judiciary.

Minister Sabry briefed the EU officials on the ongoing legal reforms in the Judiciary, the digitisation of the judiciary, the development of infrastructure for expeditious disposal of cases as well as the increase in the number of courts, the increase in the number of judges and the amendment of the Constitution.

Justice Ministry Secretary Priyantha Mayadunne and several officials representing the Ministry of Justice were also present on this occasion.
