Dullas accuses Govt. of political revenge against MPs who supported him 

• Accuses Govt. of witch hunt against him and supporting MPs 
• Says President still engaged in age-old decrepit politics 
• Calls President’s manifesto a fallacy

In a letter to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Dullas Alahpperuma says the Government is treating him and the Parliamentarians who supported him at the Presidential election in Parliament in a hostile manner. 

Alahapperuma noted in his letter that the Government has ensured it does not re-appoint MPs who supported him at the recent election to positions in Parliamentary committees. He expressed his disgust and protest in this regard. 

According to him, when appointing members for committees in Parliament after the commencement of a new Parliamentary term, many who worked unconditionally to expose the fraudulent and illegal activities of the Government have been politically victimised. 

“According to the documentation presented to the Parliament by the Speaker last week, my removal from the Steering Committee in making appointments to the Parliamentary Steering Committee and the Committee on Public Accounts in which I have served continuously for decades is unbefitting but understandable in an uncultured political environment,” he said.

“However, the removal of SLPP Party President Prof. G.L Peiris who is an internationally recognised intellectual and who confirmed my nomination for the Presidency from the same Committee, as well as the expulsion of my counting officer at the election MP Dilan Perera and Head of my Election Operations Committee Dr. Nalaka Goadewa from the Accounts Committee is certainly a violation of the principles of natural justice as well as people’s sovereignty,” Alahapperuma added. 

Alahapperuma said despite the Speaker not informing the Parliament yet, he has been made aware that others who supported him including Committee on Public Enterprise Chairman Professor Charitha Herath and MP Gunapala Rathnasekara are set to be removed from their posts after earning the wrath of the Government due to extending their support to him. 

“You are well aware Prof. Herath won public respect for his inflexible anti-corruption policies” Alahapperuma pointed out to the Prime Minister. 

Alahapperuma said despite President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s open invitation to form an all-party Government, on the other hand, the Government is now carrying out a witch hunt against him for being Wickremesinghe’s main opponent at the election and those who chose to support him.

“Is this not yet another display of the remnants of the decades-old decrepit politics of Sri Lanka?” he asked. According to him, given the current situation, the manifesto presented by Wickremesinghe 21 days ago is a mere eyewash and a fallacy.
