Driving licences for hearing-impaired community

The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved to issue of light-vehicle driving licences to hearing-impaired persons on a biannual renewal basis.

On 14 November 2022 the Cabinet approved a pilot project to issue light-vehicle driving licences to the hearing-impaired community in the Gampaha District.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardena received the approval to expand the project countrywide based on the results of the pilot project and the recommendations provided by the Transport Secretary-chaired committee appointed for the implementation of the project.
