The Government yesterday announced that gatherings will be allowed at places of worship from the end of the week and tuition classes will be permitted to resume from the end of the month.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, worshippers will be allowed to gather at places of worship from tomorrow. However, the maximum capacity allowed at places of worship, including buildings and open spaces, will be limited to 50.

Tuition classes will be allowed to resume with a maximum capacity of 100 students from 29 June. Health and Indigenous Medical Services Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi stated that the decision on recommencing tuition classes was taken as several parents were inquiring about it, especially with regards to Advanced Level Examinations to be held in October.

If the place of worship or tuition class cannot hold the maximum capacity while also adhering to social distancing measures, they will be required to halve the maximum capacity allowed at the premises at a time.
