Guidelines for organisations operating in the Western Province issued by the Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena were amended yesterday, putting more focus on reducing workforce capacities and encouraging employees to work from home.

According to a statement issued by the Health Ministry, the revised guidelines state that an employee attached to any Government ministry or organisation or semi-government organisation that is not an essential service can only be called in to work for a maximum of two days a week, and this too, only if they absolutely cannot perform their tasks from home.

In addition to this, any employee required on site must be provided transport to and from work as public transport in the Western Province is only for essential services.

The DGHS added that private sector organisations should operate with the minimal number of on-site employees and encourage employees to work from home as much as possible.
