The Colombo High Court yesterday ordered the release of Daisy Forrest, the grand-aunt of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, from the money laundering case filed against them under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The court issued the order after considering submissions that Forrest was not in a suitable mental condition to face trial.

Rajapaksa pleaded not guilty when the charges against him were read out in open Court yesterday.

The case relates to three indictments filed by the Attorney General. The indictments allege that Rajapaksa committed an offence under the Act between 31 March, 2009 and 12 December, 2013 by depositing a sum exceeding Rs. 59 million, the source of which could not be explained, in three private banks.
