Court recalls warrants on Aravinda de Silva, wife

Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday ordered the recall of warrants issued a day earlier on former Sri Lankan cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife, who had stood as sureties for the wife of Airbus bribery case suspect the late Kapila Chandrasena.

Counsel representing de Silva and his wife appeared before court by way of a motion, submitting that the couple had been unable to appear the previous day due to funeral arrangements for de Silva’s mother.

Considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the warrants on de Silva and his wife to be recalled.

The late Chandrasena is a suspect in the alleged payment of a $ 2 million bribe in connection with the purchase of Airbus aircraft by SriLankan Airlines.
