The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has postponed the hearing of a Police request to issue an urgent order to remove the roadblocks in front of the Presidential Secretariat in the Galle Face Green until 13 June.

When the complaint was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe, the Police requested the court to give them another date to consider the request.

The managers of two private companies in the area told the court today through their lawyers that they had not made any request to remove the protesters from Galle Face Green.

The lawyers further stated that the Police have made false statements to the court and that they intend to act in accordance with the law in this regard in the future.

The lawyers representing the protesters asked the court to issue a notice to the respondent party also if the case is called before the next court date.

After considering the facts presented, the Chief Magistrate stated that it appears that there is no need for the Police to pursue this request and ordered the prosecution to appear on 13 June.
