Court issues arrest warrant for Basil Rajapaksa over alleged illicit funds case

The Matara Magistrate’s Court yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa after he failed to appear before court in connection with a case involving allegedly illegally acquired funds.

The case relates to allegations that Rajapaksa used unlawfully obtained money to purchase land in the Brown’s Hill area of Matara.

The arrest warrant was issued after the former Minister was absent during court proceedings yesterday.
