The Colombo High Court yesterday ordered that Daisy Forrest, the grandmother of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, be released from the case filed against her under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The order was issued after Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara presented to Court a special psychiatric report obtained through the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer to determine whether the accused, Daisy Forrest, was mentally fit to stand trial.
He informed the Court that medical recommendations had concluded that the accused was not in a suitable mental condition to face trial. Accordingly, Forrest was released from the case, while proceedings will continue against Rajapaksa.
During the previous hearings, Counsel for Forrest told Court that the 98-year-old was not in a suitable mental condition to stand trial.
The case relates to allegations that the accused were involved in laundering around Rs. 59 million through three private bank accounts.
