Contempt against Wijesuriya: CA defers for 14 January

The Court of Appeal (CA) yesterday deferred for 14 January next year Contempt of Court against civil rights activist Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya.

The bench comprised Justice Dr. Ruwan Fernando. The complaint filed by Attorney Sampath Vajira Kumara and Retired Army Officer Anil Wasantha Alwis states Prof. Wijesuriya had purportedly made defamatory remarks against the judiciary on several occasions including on social media.

President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena instructed by Ravindranath Dabare appeared for the complainants. Upul Jayasuriya PC appeared for Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya.
