The Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday granted bail to former General Manager (GM) of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) M.R. Srimati Mallika Kumari Senadheera, who was arrested over allegations of corruption linked to the opening ceremony of the first phase of the Weras Ganga Park project.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali ordered to grant bail to the suspect on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.
She was taken into custody by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Investigators had alleged that Rs. 27 million from the project fund was used for the ceremony, despite no official allocation for such expenses.
According to the Commission, she had allegedly selected an institution outside approved procurement procedures to handle the event, thereby providing undue advantage to that institution.
