The Parliament Secretariat yesterday said the Committee on Public Finance (CoPF) approved a proposed supplementary estimate to settle unpaid bills and complete the remaining work of the China EXIM Bank-financed Kandy North Pathadumbara Integrated Water Supply Project.
The supplementary estimate was presented by the Urban Development, Construction and Housing Ministry.
The statement did not disclose the value of the supplementary estimates nor the status of the project.
According to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, the Rs. 58 billon project with local funding amounting to Rs. 7.3 billion, commenced in August 2019 and was due for completion by August 2022, with an extension granted to March 2025. The project included upgrading 27 service reservoirs, building 18 new pump houses, and laying 570 km distribution and 83 km transmission lines.
The CoPF also considered a proposed supplementary estimate from the Women and Child Affairs Ministry to provide provisions for a nutrition pack to pregnant mothers suffering from nutritional deficiencies.
The resolution on the agreement between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments was also approved by the Committee following discussions.
The CoPF session was headed by its Chair, Main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dr. Harsha de Silva.
