Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has sought the Court of Appeal’s permission to intervene in proceedings involving former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Sallay, urging the court to reject his petition challenging a detention order issued under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

In an intervening petition, the Cardinal requested leave to make submissions in the case and argued that the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) ongoing investigations should not be impeded.

Sallay has petitioned the Court of Appeal seeking a writ to quash the PTA detention order that authorised the CID to detain and question him, contending that the directive is unlawful and should be declared invalid.
