Cabinet nod to gazette and table Community Based Corrections (Amendment) Bill for Parliament approval

Cabinet of Ministers has approved the publication of the Community Based Corrections (Amendment) Bill in the Government gazette and its subsequent submission to Parliament for approval.

On 7 April 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers approved to amend the Community Based Corrections Act, No. 46 of 1999, by updating its provisions to enable more effective enforcement of the law in dealing with repeat offenders.

Following that approval, the Legal Draftsman prepared the amendment Bill, which has since received clearance from the Attorney General.

The proposal to this effect was submitted by Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara.
