The Government will amend the Co-operative Employees Commission Act No. 12 of 1972, Cabinet Spokesperson and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.
He was speaking at the media briefing on decisions taken at Monday’s (12) Cabinet meeting. Dr. Jayatissa said the Legal Draftsman will prepare an amending Bill based on a preliminary draft prepared by the Co-operative Employees Commission.
The amendments are needed because of changes in socio-economic conditions and in public policy on how co-operative societies operate. The Commission drew up its draft after considering the views and proposals of co-operative societies, their board members, co-operative employees and other interested parties, as well as its own experience. The Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development Minister presented the proposal.
