The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday gave the green light for all Ministries and relevant authorities to take necessary steps to ensure the timely completion of ongoing large-scale development projects across the country, following a review of first-quarter progress for 2025.

The directive comes in the wake of a performance report submitted by the Department of Project Management and Monitoring, which reviewed financial and physical progress based on data provided by respective line ministries.

The report offers a comprehensive snapshot of Sri Lanka’s public investment landscape at the end of the first quarter.

According to the report, a total of 205 large-scale development projects are currently being implemented, with 21 new projects added to the portfolio this year. Of these, 145 projects are expected to be completed within 2025, including 74 projects initially slated for completion in the first quarter.

The timeline for the remaining projects spans several years, with 24 projects scheduled for completion in 2026, 19 in 2027, and 9 extending into 2028.

The Department of Project Management and Monitoring is expected to continue its oversight role, providing quarterly updates to the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure accountability and transparency in the use of public resources.

The proposal to this effect submitted by President Anura Kumara Disanayake in his capacity as the Finance, Planning and Economic Development Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
