The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday approved submitting amended orders governing the appointment, suspension, cancellation and code of ethics for the post of Justice of the Peace to Parliament.
The amended orders will be formally presented to Parliament for consideration.
Under the Judicature Act No. 2 of 1978, the Minister holds the authority to enforce such regulations.
Initially, the Justice of the Peace Orders No. 3 of 2023 were published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2360/22 dated 27 November 2023. Following a review, amendments to these orders were published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2439/34 dated 4 June 2025.
The proposal to this effect submitted by Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
