The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the submission to Parliament of orders and regulations issued under the Revenue Protection Act No. 19 of 1962 and the Special Commodity Levy Act No. 48 of 2007, which have already been published in Extraordinary Gazette notifications.
Approval was granted to a resolution submitted by the President, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Plan Implementation and Economic Development, to place the relevant gazetted measures before Parliament for consideration.
The measures include Revenue Protection Order No. 05/2025, published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2464/15 of 25 November 2025, which revises the levy applicable to hybrid category mandarin fruit to either 20% of Customs duty or Rs. 60 per kilogram.
Cabinet has also approved the continuation of the special commodity levy on potatoes and Bombay onions under regulations issued in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2464/14 of 25 November 2025, while allowing for the repeal of the special commodity levy previously imposed on imports of hybrid category mandarin fruit.
In addition, approval has been granted for regulations published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2465/16 of 4 December 2025 to exempt donations received under projects supporting individuals affected by Cyclone Ditwah from the special commodity levy.
Further, Cabinet has approved the submission to Parliament of regulations published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2469/12 of 31 December 2025, which maintain tax rates on 62 commodities up to 31 December 2026 and provide tax relief for dates imported as donations and grants for the Ramzan festive season.
