The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the implementation of the project “Management of Hypertension and Diabetes Based on Strategies in Primary Care Services” in the Galle, Colombo, and Gampaha Districts.

The project will be funded using remaining resources from Stage 1 of the initiative, an additional financial grant, and a total grant of $ 242,125 provided by the global health organisation Resolve to Save Lives. The Cabinet also approved entering into an agreement with the institution to secure the financial provisions.

Speaking at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday, Media Spokesperson and Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the initiative builds on a previous project titled “Multimodal Involvement to Improve the Prevention and Management of Hypertension in the Integrated Mechanism for Implementing Primary Health Care Services in Sri Lanka,” which was funded by a $ 304,795 grant from Resolve to Save Lives and implemented between 2021 and 2024 in the Kalutara, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Matale Districts.

Dr. Jayatissa said given the positive outcomes achieved during the first phase, the Government has decided to expand the project to Galle, Colombo, and Gampaha to further strengthen primary healthcare services for hypertension and diabetes prevention and management.
