The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved to revise bus fares following the latest hike in fuel prices from midnight 22 March.
According to the National Transport Commission (NTC), the diesel price hike requires bus fares to be adjusted upward by 12.19%.
Based on this recommendation, the Cabinet has endorsed a proposal by the Transport Minister to implement a fare increase of 12.19%.
The revised fares will apply to normal, semi‑luxury, luxury, and super‑luxury bus services, including those operating on expressways effective from midnight on 23 March.
The proposal to this effect was submitted by Transport and Highways Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
