Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa
The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday approved implementing two key projects under the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) for the 2025-2027 grant cycles.
“The upcoming grant cycle aligns with the objectives of the National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis Control and the 2023–2027 National Strategic Plan for eradicating HIV/AIDS,” Cabinet Spokesman and Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Wednesday.
He said the Global Fund has agreed to allocate $ 2.97 million for the Tuberculosis component and $ 6.38 million for the HIV/AIDS control program during the 2025–2027 timeline.
Since 2002, the GFATM project has been operating in Sri Lanka under the Health Ministry to manage, prevent and control HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. From 2021 onward, the focus has shifted to only HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.
Dr. Jayatissa said the move enables the continuation and strengthening of efforts aimed at controlling these diseases and advancing national public health targets.
The proposal to this effect submitted by Health Minister Dr. Jayatissa was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
