The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved calling for bids for coal procurement for Norochcholai Lakvijaya Power Plant for upcoming season 2025/2026.
Speaking at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said bids for coal procurement will be called from the registered suppliers in the Lanka Charcoal Ltd., for the aforementioned time period.
“The Ceylon Electricity Board has estimated that the coal requirement for the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Power Plant for the 2025/2026 season will be 2.32 million tons ±10% or 39 shipments,” he added.
In response to queries on procurement process posed by journalists, Dr. Jayatissa assured that the procedure is transparent.
However, he said if anyone who finds that the existing violates standard procedure, can challenge it to the procurement appeal committee or challenge it in the Court.
