The subsidy is part of the program to support the procurement of fertiliser for paddy and other field crops, as decided at the season meetings and recommended by the Director General of Agriculture.

“The program is planned to be implemented continuously in the 2026/27 Maha season. The cost of providing the subsidy for the season has been estimated at Rs. 16 billion,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

The proposal was submitted by the Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Minister K. D. Lal Kantha.
