Cabinet approves ‘Disrupt Asia 2026’ national tech summit, UNDP to partner as strategic ally

Two-day summit and innovation festival to feature startup competition, exhibitions and cross-sector networking

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved to conduct the ‘Disrupt Asia - 2026’ Technological Summit and Innovation Festival, with the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) Sri Lanka Office coming on board as a strategic partner.

The event, planned by the Digital Economy Ministry in collaboration with GovTech Sri Lanka Ltd., is set to be held as a two-day national program featuring a startup competition, main sessions organised around various themes, an exhibition, a networking event, and other affiliated programs.

“The summit is expected to draw participation from a broad range of stakeholders, including ministries, government institutions, the private sector, industry representatives, academia, development partners and international organisations,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing this week.

The UNDP’s Sri Lankan Office has expressed its willingness and readiness to serve as a strategic partner for the event.

The proposal to this effect was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as the Digital Economy Minister.
