Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa yesterday made a public apology after Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala was caught using inappropriate language in a private phone conversation amid the fallout from the Hulftsdorp Court shooting on Wednesday.
Speaking at the weekly post-Cabinet media briefing, Dr. Jayatissa acknowledged that the Deputy Minister’s remarks were inappropriate, noting it may have happened under pressure during a moment of confusion and frustration.
The shooting inside one of Colombo’s busiest court complexes has raised fresh concerns over security lapses in judicial premises.
Deputy Minister Watagala, who was present at the scene, was caught on camera engaging in a phone call with his driver, during which he used inappropriate language.
The news video quickly circulated on social media, drawing criticism from the public and opposition figures.
