COVID-19 death toll rises to 90

The COVID-19 death count rose to 90 with health authorities confirming that three COVID-19 deaths occurred in the country yesterday.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 60-year-old individual from Colombo 15 was transferred from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka to the Homagama Base Hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19. He died while receiving treatment at the intensive care unit, with the cause of death cited as blood poisoning induced by COVID-19.

A 60-year-old resident of Colombo 14 also passed away yesterday at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. She was admitted to hospital due to a heart attack, which, along with COVID-19, was the cause of death.

The Department of Government Information added that a resident of Heiyanthuduwa died of an acute infection caused by COVID-19. She was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) after testing positive for the virus and passed away at the NIID.
