COVID-19 death toll rises to 66

Health authorities yesterday confirmed that five more COVID-19-related deaths had occurred in the country, bringing the total COVID-19 death count to 66.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 65-year-old resident of Colombo-10 was admitted to the Punani Treatment Centre after he tested positive for the virus. He was then transferred to the Welikanda Hospital, where he passed away due to high blood pressure with COVID-19.

A 69-year-old resident of Ratmalana also passed away due to blood pressure with COVID-19 and diabetes complications. She passed away at her place of residence.

The DGI states that an individual from Kirulapone also passed away at home. She was 71-years-old and the cause of death is cited as high blood pressure as well as diabetes worsened by COVID-19.

An 81-year-old resident of Colombo-2 passed away at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka due to COVID-19 with pneumonia.

An individual from Dematagoda died at home due to diabetes complications and COVID-19. He was 82-years-old.
