COVID-19 death toll rises to 283

Health authorities yesterday stated that the country’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 283 with the deaths of three COVID-19-positive persons.

According to the Department of Government Information, an individual from Pujapitiya died of COVID pneumonia and blood poisoning yesterday while receiving treatment at the Teldeniya Base Hospital. She was transferred to the hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 at the Kandy General Hospital. The individual was 65-years-old.

On Saturday, a 77-year-old individual from Colombo-14 died of COVID pneumonia, high blood pressure, liver infection, and kidney disease. The individual was identified as COVID-19 positive at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and was transferred to the Colombo East Base Hospital, where she passed away.

Health authorities also stated that an individual from Maradana died while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka on 21 January. The cause of death is cited as COVID-19 with acute blood poisoning, COVID pneumonia, and heart disease. The individual was 84-years-old.
