COVID-19 death toll exceeds 6,000 with 161 more fatalities

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll crossed the 6,000 mark with the confirmation of 161 COVID-19 fatalities on Saturday.

A total of 6,096 COVID-19 fatalities have been confirmed to date. It was only on 6 August that Sri Lanka exceeded 5,000 COVID-19 fatalities.

The COVID-19 deaths confirmed on Saturday include 122 persons over the age of 60, 38 persons between ages 30 and 59, and one person below the age of 30. The Epidemiology Unit states that 75.4% of the total fatalities are over the age of 60, 23.49% between ages 30 and 59, and 1.11% below the age of 30. Of the total fatalities, 3,521 are male and 2,575 are female.

Eighty-three fatalities confirmed on Saturday were male and 78 were female.
