COVID-19 death toll exceeds 10,000 with 189 fatalities on Saturday

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll crossed the 10,000 mark with the confirmation of 189 COVID-19 fatalities on Saturday.

The country’s COVID-19 fatalities exceeded 9,000 on 30 August and crossed the 8,000 mark on 25 August.

A total of 10,140 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded to date.

On Saturday, 154 persons over the age of 60, 34 persons aged between 30 and 59, and one person over the age of 30 were confirmed as COVID-19 deaths. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 76.04% of the total fatalities is above the age of 60, 22.84% is aged between 30 and 59, and 1.12% is below the age of 30.

The COVID-19 death toll consists of 5,737 persons who are male and 4,403 persons who are female. Of the COVID-19 deaths confirmed on Saturday, 96 were male and 93 were female.
