The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Tuesday approved awarding several major consultancy contracts under a Chinese Government-supported donation scheme for low-income earners to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) and the Sri Lanka Engineering Corporation (SLEC).
The Urban Development Authority (UDA) called for expressions of interest (EoIs) for the selection of consultancy institutions under three packages for supervisory activities of residential sites of 1,996 housing units being constructed under the donation initiative of the Government of China for low-income generating individuals.
“Six institutions have submitted EoIs, while only three have been eligible to forward Requests for Proposals (RFP). Based on the recommendations of the Cabinet-appointed Procurement Committee for selecting consultants, the two companies were chosen,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
He stated that the total estimated cost of the projects exceeds Rs. 520 million.
Accordingly, two contacts were awarded to the SLEC, while one was awarded to the CECB.
The proposal to this effect, submitted by Urban Development, Construction and Housing Minister Anura Karunathilake, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
