The Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil has donated 10 high capacity Water Purification Units in support of Sri Lanka’s flood relief and recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah.

The documents relating to the donation were formally handed over to Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath by the Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Brazil in Sri Lanka Monica Maria Meirelles Nasser.

The Water Purification Units, with an individual capacity to treat 10,000 litres per day, will collectively provide clean, safe drinking water to approximately 7,000 people daily. Beyond immediate disaster relief, the technology is also designed for long-term integration into public infrastructure, such as schools and hospital.

Receiving the donation, Minister Herath expressed his appreciation for Brazil’s timely assistance, which is a reflection of the strong bilateral partnership and shared commitment to humanitarian cooperation of the two countries.
