Former CBSL Governor Arjuna Mahendran
The Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar has fixed the Central Bank Bond case against former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and several co-accused for a pre-trial conference on 28 January, 2027.
The three-judge bench, presided over by Judge Priyantha Liyanage, made the order when the case was taken up yesterday. Perpetual Treasuries Ltd., (PTL) Directors Arjun Aloysius, Geoffrey Aloysius and Kasun Palisena, former Central Bank Deputy Governor P. Samarasiri, Muthuraja Surendran, Chitta Ranjan Hulugalle and P. Gunawardena appeared in court. The court continues to proceed with the trial in the absence of Mahendran and Ajahn Punchihewa.
Responding to defence submissions on missing case documents, the bench directed Senior State Counsel Oswald Perera, appearing for the Attorney General, to ensure the outstanding documents are handed over to the defence before the next date. The Attorney General has indicted the accused under the Offences Against Public Property Act over an alleged loss of Rs. 688 million to the Government in the Central Bank Bond auction of 27 February, 2015.
