A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 7 squadron yesterday crashed into the Maduru Oya reservoir, claiming six lives, while six other Armed Forces personnel, who sustained injuries in the incident, are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Sri Lanka Air Force confirmed that six personnel lost their lives after a Bell 212 helicopter crashed into the Maduru Oya reservoir during a demonstration for the Special Forces passing out parade.
“A Bell 212 helicopter of No. 7 Sqn crashed into the Maduru Oya Reservoir during a demo for the SF passing out parade. The Commander of the Air Force has appointed a special nine-member committee to conduct a detailed investigation. Regrettably, six personnel lost their lives following the incident,” a statement from the Air Force noted.
