The BBC has identified several social media pages linked to operators in Sri Lanka and other countries that were allegedly involved in creating and amplifying AI-generated anti-immigration content targeting audiences in the United Kingdom.

According to an investigation conducted by BBC Panorama and the Top Comment podcast, one of the key pages identified was “Great British People”, which claimed to operate from Yorkshire but was allegedly managed by an individual based in Sri Lanka.

Another page titled “Britain Today”, which shared AI-generated protest footage and anti-migrant content, was also identified through Meta transparency tools as operating from Sri Lanka, the report said.

The investigation said the pages circulated AI-generated videos portraying a dystopian vision of Britain, including fabricated scenes involving Sharia law in Parliament, deteriorating UK cities and anti-immigration narratives designed to generate online engagement.

The BBC reported that several interconnected accounts operating from Sri Lanka, the United States, Vietnam, the Maldives and other countries were involved in promoting similar content across social media platforms.

According to the report, some content creators acknowledged that the material was produced primarily to increase engagement and advertising revenue. However, experts cited in the investigation warned that such content could also contribute to broader misinformation efforts and influence campaigns.
