The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has condemned the fatal shooting of an Attorney-at-Law and his wife in Akuregoda on 13 February, describing the incident as a serious threat to the Rule of Law.
In a statement issued yesterday, the BASL said the couple had been shot by a group of unidentified assailants. The Association noted that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The BASL stressed that attacks of this nature undermine public confidence in the justice system and the safety of legal professionals. It urged the Police to carry out a thorough and expeditious inquiry, identify those responsible, and ensure that they are produced before the law without delay.
The Association also called on law enforcement authorities to take concrete and effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
