SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa told Parliament yesterday that drugs cannot be eradicated merely by setting targets for arrests.

He said the current approach of setting targets and arresting people to meet them was ineffective, and urged the Government to recognise the limitations of such a strategy.

“Arresting drug addicts will not serve any purpose. It will only lead to further overcrowding in prisons,” Rajapaksa said.
