Parliament yesterday passed the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill with amendments and without a vote, revising the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023 to address legal, interpretational, administrative, and technical problems encountered in its implementation.
The Bill resolves discrepancies between the Sinhala and English texts of the Act, streamlines the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences, and improves administrative processes at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). It also updates the process for submitting asset and liability declarations through a centralised electronic system.
