Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa

Former SriLankan Airlines CEO
Kapila Chandrasena
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena has claimed that Rs. 60 million from funds linked to the Airbus transaction had been paid to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Making submissions before court, CIABOC stated that Chandrasena had indicated the amount was allegedly disbursed in three separate instalments.
The Commission further told court that Chandrasena had also claimed that an additional Rs. 20 million had been paid to former Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne.
The disclosures were made as CIABOC presented facts in relation to the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities connected to aircraft procurement from Airbus.
After considering the submissions, the Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered that Chandrasena be remanded until 2 April.
Chandrasena was previously arrested by CIABOC over allegations that he had solicited and accepted a bribe of $ 2 million in connection with the Airbus deal.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
