Adjournment debate on President’s policy statement on 19-20 Jan.

• President to declare new session of House open on 18 Jan.

An adjournment debate on the policy statement of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will take place in Parliament on 19 and 20 January, party leaders decided yesterday.

The President will open the new session of Parliament on 18 January and deliver the Government’s policy statement to the House. The House was prorogued on 13 December by the President. 

The adjournment debate which will be moved by the Government will commence the next day. Both the main Opposition SJB and the UNP had requested an adjournment debate.

Meanwhile the condolence vote on late parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera will take place on 21 January.
