The Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday rejected a Right to Information (RTI) request from a citizen for details of President Anura Kumara Disanayake’s domestic travel.
The RTI was rejected because “the information requested is directly relevant to the security sensitive information of the Hon. President,” the letter rejecting the RTI issued by the Presidential Secretariat said.
The request had been submitted on 4 August by Jinath Premaratne. The Secretariat’s response, dated 27 August, cited Section 5(1)(b)(i) of the RTI Act as the legal basis for refusal, noting that the details sought fell within the exemption covering information tied to presidential security.
The letter, signed by Information Officer and Senior Additional Secretary to the President G.G.S.C. Roshan, also informed the applicant of the appeal process. Under Section 31(1) of the Act, an appeal must be lodged within 14 days and directed to Senior Additional Secretary to the President K. Prasanna Chandith at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
