Daily COVID-19 detections exceeded 900 for the first time since 30 September 2021, with 927 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
The Department of Government Information states that 922 persons from the New Year cluster and five overseas arrivals were among the patients detected yesterday.
The previous day, 888 persons from the New Year cluster and three Sri Lankan overseas arrivals tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 8,047 PCR tests and 6,120 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 case count is 604,581. This includes 499,316 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,098 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.
In addition to this, 7,154 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 122,289 patients from Colombo, 104,078 patients from Gampaha, 54,747 patients from Kalutara, 39,798 patients from Galle, and 29,089 patients from Kurunegala have been detected.
COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 89,992 persons from Colombo, 85,544 persons from Gampaha, and 47,689 persons from Kalutara. At present, 12,454 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,857 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 241 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 576,781.
