802 persons test positive for COVID-19

Daily COVID-19 detections dropped to 802 cases yesterday, the lowest it has been since 25 April when 793 COVID-19 patients were detected.

The patients detected yesterday include 800 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 7,566 PCR tests were carried out yesterday.

The previous day, 7,377 PCR tests and 3,123 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 855 COVID-19 patients were detected. The detections include 836 persons from the New Year cluster, 16 persons from the Prisons cluster, and three Sri Lankan overseas arrivals.

A total of 520,432 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka. This includes 415,807 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 8,797 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

A total of 6,940 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners are included in the country’s imported COVID-19 cases.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 110,651 detections from Colombo, 92,509 detections from Gampaha, 50,896 detections from Kalutara, 31,312 detections from Galle, and 25,100 detections from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 78,354 persons from Colombo, 73,975 persons from Gampaha, and 43,838 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 48,075 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,182 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 652 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 459,298.
